| ..sigh... no one commented on how to properly tune your mouse (ex. no smooth mouse/acceleration, increasing rates, DPI and sensitivity settings). I could make a whole page about it if anyone's interested. The competitive CS:S guys should know what I mean here.
Edit: Oh and.... Logitech MX518 FTW

Edit: Oh and.... Logitech MX518 FTW No smooth mouse on the game. Sensitivity on control panel mouse options to maximum, and without smoothing there also. DPI's are variable. I play with maximum. 1000Hz with my razer driver, but if your driver doesn't do the trick there are programs who 'overclock' your USB port... what else?

- It is absolutely vital to disable all mouse acceleration when playing Counter-Strike. With acceleration on, you will not be able to play consistently. For example, you might move the mouse 6 inches to turn 180 degrees, then you move the mouse 6 inches another time, and depending on how fast you move the mouse you might turn 100 degrees, you might turn 270. This uncertainty in mouse response inevitably limits everyone's potential
Summed up pretty well, mouse acceleration is determined on how fast you move the mouse so you will lack consistency, when it's removed you can move that 6" at any speed you want but it will consistently go the same distance in game, this is very important. Also, turning off 'smooth mouse' in your Chaser settings isn't enough, your Windows mouse smoothing will still work, so you need to disable it for Windows. I've compiled a little packet of tools to remove any mouse acceleration/smoothing for Windows XP, Vista or 7 (mostly just a .reg file you need to open). It has a pretty detailed .html tutorial with step by step guides with pictures so its 'dummy proof'. Also it has programs to check and edit your mouse rates for all those Windows versions. Make sure you complete every step if you do this. http://www.mediafire.com/?lqzkh0y1x1e33gt Just extract and open the "Install Guide (OPEN ME!).html" But if you have any trouble or questions on how to use it I can answer it here. Why should you increase your mouse polling rate? - Quote :
- If you have invested in a high resolution mouse, adjusting the USB polling rate is a common trick to utilise the added precision it brings. The polling rate (or report rate) determines how often the mouse sends information to your computer. Measured in Hz, this setting equates to lag time (in ms).
By default, the USB polling rate is set at 125hz. The table below represents combinations of Hz values and their corresponding delay time: - Quote :
- With a smaller polling rate you might have a harder time sniping in games. This is just because your mouse can't register small movements as well and your gun will jump to location.
Basically its similar to FPS but for your mouse, if you have a high performance mouse you can increase your rates so you get better, quicker, more precise responses from when you move your mouse. That packet's tutorial explains how to edit your rates, I'd recommend doing research on what mouse you're using to make sure you don't go to high and just in turn nerf yourself. Then we finish with the great debate on DPI/sensitivity. - Quote :
- Dots per Inch. First off, they aren't dots, they are called pixels. So if you have 3500 DPI, your pointer moves 3500 pixels for an inch of mouse movement if your Windows mouse sensitivity is the default 6.
....... There is this misconception that higher sensitivity means you're a better player-it doesn't. Most pros use a calculated 400 DPI; it is more accurate compared to having to whip around the pointer a few times to lock onto a target. Having fast reflexes and moving the mouse fast yourself is much more controlled and accurate This guy pretty much hit the nail on the head, DPI isn't anything more than mouse sensitivity. And this part is more personal preference than anything. But if you want to get into it some, if you look at most of the pro CS:S players, they are 400-800 dpi. Personally I play with 400 on my MX518. So don't go thinking you need high DPI to get great precision, that would be increasing your mouse rates. But whats a good sensitivity? This is something I pushed for new *USMC* guys to try, lowering there sensitivity. You can measure your sensitivity by putting your mouse all the way to one side, and slowly move it horizontally only until your guy does a full 360, then measure how far it took your mouse to go that far (ex. 6") Like so.... I'm amazed when I hear guys saying it takes them 1-3", that's a VERY FAST sensitivity, and leads to horrible consistency. The minimum I liked guys I was teaching to be at was at least 6", which is decent. Me personally being a CS:S player, and when I'm active in CS:S. mine is 12-15" to do a 360 in Chaser, full 15" in CSS. When I stopped gaming for a while and came back just to chaser I usually have to speed it up to around 8-10". To control recoil and be accurate in CS:S a 15" 360 is very common, but it's not something I expect say a Chaser or Quake player to play on. Again, this is just preference, Do this mouse sensitivity measurement, I'm curious to see what everyone else plays on. Mine: Mouse: Logitech MX518 DPI: 400 Sensitivity: 6@Windows - 1 In Chaser (Haven't been on CS:S so its faster than usual, about 9" to 360) Polling Rate: 500hz All smooth mouse and/or mouse acceleration is disabled Let me know what you guys got.

| For chaser I have an high sensitivity, but not for CS. These are different games, different style of playing. I'll try to measure, but I'm sure it is pretty low to turn 360 on Chaser. | |

In chaser 0.5400 ( ) i need precisly 6" to 360 in Chaser Didnt change anything at windows about acceleration and smooth mouse, only disabled it in mouse settings
